We didn’t think it was possible, but Sonny Bill Williams has gone up in our estimations.

The world had a newfound appreciation for Sonny Bill Williams after this year’s Rugby World Cup. Not only for his contributions on the pitch, but for how he came to a young fan’s aid when he was tackled by a security guard and proceeded to give him his medal.

Now, the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the All Blacks star has decided to visit children in refugee camps in Lebanon after being given a virtual tour of the camp during the World Cup.

The New Zealand team have links with charities including UNICEF and Sonny Bill informed them he wanted to go to Lebanon as soon as possible after the tournament. According to the paper, Williams didn’t hesitate to make the decision despite the obvious threats.

“The logistics and security preparations for this visit have been considerable, especially in light of recent events – the bombing in Beirut threw an issue at those planning the trip – but SBW has not hesitated.”

“The Williams trip is sure to generate significant media interest, but that was never the objective for the dual international. He is doing this to make a small difference in the life of some kids and to understand in some way the hardship they are experiencing.”

Rugby union, rugby league, boxing, all round legend, UNICEF ambassador… is there anything this man can’t do?
