There is potential for a lot of distractions at the University of Limerick this week.
It’s European Cup semi-final week, it doesn’t get much better than that.
You can be sure that the Munster management will be doing everything they can to keep their players focused on the formidable task at hand.
That task being facing the English and European champions Saracens on Saturday.
However, there are many Munster players in the mix for Lions selection.
That selection takes place on Wednesday at midday.
You couldn’t blame some of the players for having other things on their mind when they take to the training pitch on Wednesday but Simon Zebo argues against this when he was speaking to RTÉ Sport.
“At 12 o’clock on Wednesday I will be training,” Zebo said. “So I won’t be watching anything, I will be out preparing for Saracens so at the weekend I can make sure I play well.”
Zebo further reiterates that the squad announcement will not prove a distraction.
This semi-final is one of the biggest matches of these Munster players’ careers and they won’t let any drop in concentration damage them when they are so close to reaching another European Cup final.
“To be honest it is not much of a distraction,” he said. “This is the biggest week in our season and for a lot of players this weekend is the biggest game of their careers.
“We are 100% focused on Saracens, that is the objective and the only thing in players’ minds.”
It’s is good to hear this level of focus from Zebo who is now one of the leaders of this Munster team.
If they can remain solely focused on the task at hand, then anything is possible at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.
Munster fans can only hope.
