Sad news as Ireland rugby legend Jack Kyle passes away aged 88

Outhalf was a key part of 1948 Grand Slam triumph

Sad news today as one of the greatest Ireland rugby players of all time has passed away.

Jack Kyle was part of the famous 1948 Ireland Grand Slam winning side and was known as one of the best players in the world in the 1940s and ’50s.

The Belfast native was a key feature in the Ireland Triple Crown winning side of 1949 and 1951 and also represented the Lions in 1950.

He played an incredible 20 out of their 29 games on tour  of New Zealand and Australia and was inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame in 1999.

He was also voted Ireland’s Greatest Rugby player ever in 2002

One of the greatest moments of Kyle’s later life was to be present in the Millennium Stadium in 2009 when Ireland defeated Wales to claim a first Grand Slam triumph in 51 years.
