Rory Best leads the running to be next Ireland captain

Slight favourite

Darragh Murphy

Who do you expect to lead Ireland out against Wales on 7 February?

With Peter O’Mahony expected to be missing due to injury for most of the Six Nations, there truly is only a handful of candidates remaining.

Ladbrokes essentially views it as a two-horse race between Rory Best and Jamie Heaslip with the Ulster skipper currently leading the betting.

“To work alongside Joe Schmidt in a coach-captain relationship would be great,” Best recently told the Belfast Telegraph.

Best is 13/8 to lead Ireland out as they look to become the first team to win the championship for three consecutive years while Leinster’s Heaslip is 2/1 to be given the honour.

If you fancy a bit more of a wildcard choice, Johnny Sexton will get you odds of 4/1 while Sean O’Brien and Conor Murray are both 7/1.
