Ronan O’Gara apologises to Bath fans for behaviour during Champions Cup clash

“They were giving out because our staff’s language wasn’t appropriate.”

La Rochelle head coach Ronan O’Gara had no issue apologising to Bath fans after his side’s Champions Cup win at the Rec on Friday night.

Former Ireland international Quinn Roux got on the score sheet for the home side, as their comeback fell just short.

Irish legend O’Gara is well known for his outbursts in the coaches area and has received multiple touchline bans.

The Daily Mail reported that some home fans were displeased with the Cork man’s language, with one commenting that “swearing shows a lack of intelligence.”

But a clearly delighted O’Gara offered his apologies to the English supporters.

He said:

“They were giving out because our staff’s language wasn’t appropriate.

“I was in my bubble, so if my language was off, I apologise.

“Sometimes you lose some control, but that was a tame night for me! I’m pretty happy. ‘We showed great character and resilience. The better team won.

O’Gara added: “It’s just about getting started and winning.

“We can look at the content tomorrow, Monday, Tuesday and get better for Bristol.

“Brilliant first half, shocking second half. But character from the boys because we could have buckled, but some young fellas put up their hands and we’ve got a good team spirit. I think the better team won tonight.”

“We were very accurate….. Our first try was obviously just battering away near the line. So 21 points, which was good. And then we started the second half really poorly.

“Backed up errors, discipline, scrum count. Lineout struggled a little bit, but then we got four (match) points, and in these conditions, that’s great because you can defend like dogs and we defended really well at the end.”
