Leinster are about to break with recent tradition and name a very familiar face as their new head coach
Leo Cullen is set to become the new man at the helm of Leinster’s rugby fortunes.
The 37-year-old club legend has already been offered a two-to-three-year contract by the province, according to reports in the Sunday Times, and is awaiting approval from the IRFU before his appointment in confirmed.
Cullen, who retired from playing just over a year ago, had been named interim head coach following the sacking of Matt O’Connor in May, but it had been expected that another foreign coach would be sought out either before or after the World Cup to continue the work done by Michael Cheika, Joe Schmidt and O’Connor.
But Cullen, who spent last season getting his coaching feet wet in charge of Leinster’s forwards, has impressed to the point that he will get the job on a permanent basis.
