Donncha O’Callaghan has admitted that Munster’s players must shoulder the blame for the province’s disappointing European campaign.
Munster said farewell to the Champions Cup by putting 60 points on Sale but it was all too little, too late as poor performances against Clermont-Auvergne and Saracens left them with nothing to play for as Pool 1 came to a climax.
And former Ireland second row O’Callaghan has admitted that despite the transition to a new coaching staff under Anthony Foley this season, players failed to step up when required.
‘People go on about transition of players and new coaching set-ups [but] from a player’s point of view it always lands with the players,’ O’Callaghan told RTÉ.
‘You just really need to be putting in the performance. And that’s the thing for us, we haven’t been doing that at the moment. You feel bad doing that when you’ve such great support.’
