The Irish team are based at St George’s Park for most of the week, ahead of their Pool D clash with Romania.
Ireland team manager Mick Kearney says, ‘We looked at a number of venues in London but then we came up here and we were really impressed. I’ve been here three times and Joe also came over six months ago and was massively impressed by the set-up.’
The training facilities were custom-built for the English FA and include an on-site hotel.
It is no surprise, then, that some of the rooms are adorned with pictures of, and memorabilia from, the English football team.
Ireland captain Paul O’Connell was still far from impressed that a giant picture of former Nottingham Forest and England goalkeeper Peter Shilton hanging over his bed.

Given the fact that Ireland face Romania on Sunday, this picture may have been more appropriate.
