Munster have registered three new players in their Champions Cup squad

Big changes expected

Rassie Erasmus may be about to give some young players a taste of European action.

Munster have de-registered three players from their Champions Cup squad and included three new faces in their place.

Ahead of Saturday’s final Champions Cup pool stage game against Racing 92, the province have removed Cathal Sheridan, Cian Bohane and Mike Sherry from their approved squad.

Angus Lloyd replaces Sheridan as scrum-half and may get a taste of the action if Erasmus opts to rest either Conor Murray or Duncan Williams. The 24-year-old former Blackrock College student was signed from Ulster last summer and made his Munster debut in a league fixture against Treviso.

Calvin Nash is in for Bohane and can cover both centre and wing berths. The 19-year-old has lined out for Munster A and Young Munster this season. While Shane Daly impressed for Ireland U20 last year, Nash is seen as an in-form option that will get a chance with the senior squad over the next couple of weeks.

Up front, Sherry will be replaced as hooker by Kevin O’Byrne. The Cork native, 26, has 13 senior caps with Munster and may act as cover to Niall Scannell this weekend.

Munster should top their pool and secure a home quarter final by seeing off Racing 92 at Thomond Park this Saturday evening.
