Something truly special has taken hold of Munster and of these remarkable men

Stunning result in Glasgow

Patrick McCarry

Glasgow 15-16 Munster

It was all going so well for Jaco Taute. Then he fell off one tackle and Munster were up against it.

They somehow, with three minutes on the clock and a two-point deficit, found it within themselves to dig deep and get the job done. Ian Keatley delivered a clinching drop goal late in the piece. A narrow win sees them go five points clear in the Guinness PRO12.

Munster looked on course for an impressive away win over Glasgow Warriors until a 70th minute try looked to be their undoing at Scotstoun.

Rassie Erasmus’ men were 10-0 ahead at one stage – a converted Andrew Conway try and an Ian Keatley penalty – and all the hosts could do was tag back three points before the break.

Munster made much of the play in the opening half but Warriors were always going to have their moments. They are too good not to.

Ali Price got over for a try around the hour mark and Warriors were not finished there. Players such as Tommy O’Donnell, Darren Sweetnam and Taute were stepping up in defence but one error looked to have proved crucial.

Taute shot up from the line but could not get Rory Hughes down. The winger got an offload away and Bennett scorched past the covering defence to make it 15-13. The conversion would not find its’ target and Munster were within a penalty of winning.

Munster marched up the pitch and made enough space for Keatley to slot over a match-winning drop goal.

There was still some defending to do but Munster held on and were good value for their win.
