It has been a scary few hours for the Lions.
They barely beat a scratch team of semi-professionals, they saw the Crusaders and Hurricanes flex their Super Rugby muscles and then the Chiefs were at their free-scoring best against the Waratahs… although you could ask about the defence on display during a 46-31 barn-burner that featured 10 tries.
Leinster’s new signing James Lowe scored three of them and played a major hand in two more for the off-loading, all-singing, all-dancing Chiefs, but it was Australian prop Sekope Kepu who undoubtedly provided the best moment of the game.
Passed the ball by Israel Folau in midfield, the tighthead burns past Lowe’s despairing tackle before weaving and handing-off his way through the Waratahs defence to touch down a try that it is hard to picture Mike Ross or John Hayes scoring.
