Leinster set to announce Southern Hemisphere signing before the summer

Not to be outdone by their interprovincial rivals...

The next Isa or the next Kane?

Leinster are not ready to follow the announcements – from Ulster and Munster – of big-money signings just yet but at least two players will join Johnny Sexton on the playing staff next season.

Ulster [Charles Piutau] and Munster [Francis Salli] have gained headlines in the past week for breaking the back to secure New Zealand internationals.

Sexton will rejoin Leinster, from Racing Métro, over the summer and the province’s skills coach, Richie Murphy, confirmed today that he will have company.

If negotiations go to plan, Leinster will be bringing in a player from Southern Hemisphere, with Super Rugby experience, and an Irish qualified player.

Interestingly, Murphy stated Munster and Ulster’s signings were good but declared the signings were not in positions Leinster need cover at. Both Piutau and Salli have experience at centre and wing.

The areas that Leinster could do with improving upon are scrum-half and fullback.
