Leinster lose another Irish international for the remainder of the season

The end can't come quick enough

Dropping like flies.

Leinster must do without the backline services of Luke Fitzgerald for the final two games of the season.

The versatile back is facing three months of rehab with shoulder surgery pencilled in for the coming weeks.

Fitzgerald has battled hip and groin issues for the past 18 months but returned last December. His form earned him an Ireland recall and he starred in the win over Scotland, at Edinburgh, that clinched the Six Nations.

Leinster forwards coach Leo Cullen broke the bad news on Monday.

‘[Luke] has had an issue with his shoulder and that is being repaired as well,’ said Cullen. ‘Basically it’s a repair to his labrum; he suffered a bit of damage there. He only got it done at the weekend so it’s a bit early to say.

‘We’ll find out more as the week goes on in terms of how long it might be. He will certainly be out for the next two weeks. I don’t think it’s a World Cup issue.’

Fitzgerald will be hoping to return in mid July so he can press his claims for World Cup inclusion.

Leinster have already lost Marty Moore and Sean Cronin for the rest of the season. They play Treviso at home on Friday.
