Let’s hope he’s more Brad Thorn than Kane Douglas.
While the attentions of Irish rugby fans are rightly focused on the national team’s progress at the World Cup, Leinster have quietly confirmed an intriguing new addition to their ranks.
New Zealander Hayden Triggs is to join up with the squad until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old has more than 60 Super Rugby appearances to his name and is a former Maori All Black, and fills a position of immediate need for head coach Leo Cullen following Rhys Ruddock and Mike McCarthy’s call-ups to the Ireland set-up this week.
“Hayden brings a wealth of experience to the squad at a time when we have a large chunk of our squad away at the Rugby World Cup,” Cullen said. “We look forward to welcoming him into the group in the next day or so.
“Obviously with the news that Rhys and now Mike have been added to the Irish squad, Hayden’s arrival is timely.”
