John Muldoon is getting an awful slagging as he breaks incredible record

Legend

Sean McMahon

It’s going to be a very special night at the Sportsground on Saturday.

As if this Irish provincial derby wasn’t big enough already, one Connacht player is set to reach 300 appearances for his beloved province.

That man, of course, is John Muldoon.

The Portumna man is remarkably in his fourteenth season with the western province and the number of appearances he has made is a testament to his professionalism, dedication, and loyalty to Connacht.

As if that was ever in doubt, just take a look back to his post-match interview when Connacht beat Leinster in last season’s PRO 12 final.

Muldoon has no plans to retire and he aspires to keep playing next season.

And why wouldn’t he?

He still has a lot to offer this team and he will be adamant to correct the mistakes of this season when Kieran Keane takes charge of proceedings in the summer.

However, Leinster come to Galway on Saturday so that will be the only thing occupying Muldoon’s mind.

Connacht will be desperate to gain a victory over their rivals after a disappointing display at the RDS in October.

There will undoubtedly be a huge reception for the Connacht legend when he takes to the pitch in that game but the prospect of that has not stopped his teammates from giving him his dues.

Bundee Aki, rather unsurprisingly, decided to make fun of the age difference between the pair….

While JP Cooney tested out his photoshop skills in tribute to his captain.

We would imagine Muldoon won’t mind any of this at all, especially if they can beat Leo Cullen’s side on Saturday.
