JJ Hanrahan pining for crazy Christmas after quiet start to life as a Saint

John Joseph Hanrahan got away from Munster as he felt starting opportunities were limited.

Four months into life as a Northampton Saint and the Kerry native has started just once.

There have been four appearances off the bench but Stephen Meyler is proving the Alpha Dog at Franklin’s Gardens.

This Saturday will see Saints visit The Rec to take on a Bath team still riding the momentum of a hard-fought Champions Cup win over Leinster.

With back-to-back European fixtures against Wasps on the way, Hanrahan is hoping to get plenty more game time before the year is out.

He said, “It is going to be a tough one. Bath are coming off a loss to Leicester last weekend and will be hurting.

“They want to take a scalp, especially at home. We’ll have to be top of our game and ready to the physicality of the challenge… if we don’t front up we’re going to be under a lot of pressure.”

Hanrahan added, “It is one of those things, where you are trying to look above you to see who you can push ahead of but with these [academy] players, you have to have one eye over your shoulder.”
