The Kiwi has settled fast at Leinster but still hasn’t quite got all the names down.
6 games into his Leinster career and James Lowe has five tries, three assists, 12 line breaks, 16 offloads 92 carries and 570 metres gained for his new side.
He’s not doing too badly at all.
The Nelson native played a starring role in Leinster’s 20-13 victory over reigning Guinness PRO14 champions Scarlets at The RDS, on Saturday, and had Blues fans raving again. Both Lowe and Scott Fardy have proved to be astute acquisitions.
Lowe got over for two tries and set up Luke McGrath for another, during the win, and he was just as entertaining in the post-match press conference.
The 25-year-old spoke extremely well about Leinster kicking on from that winning performance and about the next generation of young players feeding into the senior set-up.
“We’ve got young fellas coming in. I guess a lot of the academy players have been training with us full-time for the last couple of weeks, man. It doesn’t matter who comes back down from the international set-up [with Ireland], they’ve got to catch up to us.”
Lowe was fulsome in his praise of young debutant Ciarán Frawley, who kicked five points in the second half, and flanker Will Connors… even if he could not recall his name. Referring to Connors by his nickname, Lowe had everyone laughing:
“What’s Porridge’s name? Porridge, our reserve No.7.
“I only know him by his nickname. I’ve got to learn a lot of names. Will! That’s it. I don’t know if he knows my name either!”
"We came to do a job and we're happy with the outcome."
