“And really just enjoy each other’s company because it’s special.”
Jack Crowley finished off Ireland’s Autumn Nations Series the happiest of the team’s three out-halves, after a game-winning performance off the bench against Australia.
21-year-old Sam Prendergast was effective and relatively error-free in his 65 minutes on the pitch, but the addition of Munster man Crowley – and half-back partner in crime Craig Casey – brought an added impetus to the team which saw them over the line.
Utility back Ciarán Frawley lost ground in the battle for the No 10 shirt after a horror cameo against the All Blacks, but looked strong at full-back against Fiji, and still has money in the bank after his starring performance against the Springboks this summer.
The competition is clearly good for all three, with Crowley acknowledging as much as he spoke of the relationship between the men.
He said: “We’d always be unbelievably close with each other in terms of pushing each other, getting better, sitting down watching analysis together and having conversations together. And, of course, having a beer together as well.
“Because that’s what it’s all about, in the end, it’s a game that we all love playing, and it’s a group that is unbelievably special.
“The connections we have, and like don’t get me wrong, it’s competitive, but it’s certainly one that it’s a positive competitiveness.
“And one that we all put the group first and, you know, ultimately that’ll get the best out of all of us.”
Jack Crowley praises Prendergast and Frawley
Asked what compliments he would give his two Leinster rivals, he responded:
I think just, you know, their characters and personality. I think the way that they are around the place, certainly off the pitch, I think is a credit to both of them.
Amongst the group everybody fits in so well, connects so well, having cups of tea or whatever, just having the chats.
And for everybody, just to to add to the environment, I guess, is the main thing.
And and certainly around those lads, when we have coffees together, on the way to kicking or whatever, it’s just having a bit of a laugh.
And really just enjoy each other company because it’s special.
