A worrying report coming out of the north, but luckily nobody was injured.

Police in Belfast are investigating an incident which saw 12 bullets fired through the window of Irish u20 player Adam McBurney’s home in Ballymena.

The Belfast Telegraph say that 18-year-old McBurney and his 20-year-old brother Shane were not at home at the time of the shootings, which happened in the early hours of of Easter Sunday.

The young hooker was part of the Irish u20 squad during their recent Six Nations campaign, and is also involved with Ulster rugby and Ballymena in the Ulster Bank League.

The brothers live together in a semi-detached house they inherited when their mother passed away in 2013, and the paper says that up to 12 bullet holes are visible in the front window of the house.

A neighbour of the pair, David McCullough is quoted as saying the scene on Sunday morning was “like a scene from the TV”

“It was a terrific shock to wake up and find the whole place sealed off. The police were everywhere.

“The CID took statements from all of the residents. The forensic team were there all day.

“This was a terrible thing to happen in such a quiet street. I can’t think why the brothers’ house was attacked.”

Police say a red Honda Accord, which is believed to have been used in the attack, was found burnt out nearby a short time later.
