Hannah Tyrrell’s last-ditch, shoulder-popping tackle as Ireland on brink of Six Nations glory

Heroic stuff

Patrick McCarry

Selfless commitment to a winning cause.

Ireland Women are on the brink of Six Nations glory but Hannah Tyrrell must watch the rest of the game from the sidelines.

The former Dublin GAA star made a brave, last-ditch tackle to prevent an almost certain try for Scotland. Her intervention, which ended up popping her AC joint, gave her team-mates a chance to get back and snuff out the Scottish threat.

Ireland have scored five first-half tries, through Niamh Briggs, Claire Molloy, Heather O’Brien, Gillian Bourke and Alison Miller. A Briggs penalty, just before the break, made it 30-3 before Miller ran in a wonder score.

As a reminder, Ireland need to win by 27 points to win the Six Nations.
