It’s the best way for teams to keep in contact.
WhatsApp is universally the best way for a team of 20+ to keep in touch.
If everyone is in one group you can spot which lad isn’t replying and call out anyone for their soft reasons for missing training and matches.
You’d often wonder if the top teams whether it be Dublin in GAA, Manchester United in football or Ireland in rugby use the popular messaging platform.
Well, we found out the answer to one of those questions and there’s an important detail included in there.
The Ireland rugby team kind of use Whatsapp, there’s a number of reasons why but preventing embarrassment is probably one of them.
Think about it, there are three squads selected every year give or take, of those, there’ll be people selected and people cut by the time the year is out so it would be embarrassing having to kick people out.
Joey Carbery was speaking at Canterbury’s official launch of the new kit for the Irish rugby team and discussed the WhatsApp etiquette amongst the Irish team.
“There’s no WhatsApp group,” he admitted when asked about communication between the team.
“We get emails from the coaches if you’re going into camp but other than that then there might be a WhatsApp group set up for different games or different tournaments and you’d communicate through that but usually it’s just one on one or phone calls.
“So when you’re in camp you’re literally just with each other 24/7 so there’s no need for WhatsApp groups or anything,” he concluded.
Well, there you have it if any WhatsApp group is made it is from match to match or tournament to tournament rather than having one group where lads have to leave or be booted for all to see.
