Stuart McCloskey recalls “chaotic” night out cheering for rivals

Results however improved and the way the fixtures fell meant Ireland were faced with the uncomfortable scenario of supporting rivals, England when they travelled to Paris to take on France.

An English favour was all that Ireland needed to be crowned Six Nations champions for the 17th time. Things were going Ireland and England's way until a dramatic penalty was converted by Thomas Ramos to secure a remarkable 48-46 win over Steve Borthwick's side to pry the trophy away from Ireland.

Speaking on the For The Love Of Rugby podcast, Stuart McCloskey recalled the support the Irish team were giving the England players after their Triple Crown victory against Scotland in Dublin (Which you can see the highlights of below).

The Centre said: "I wish I had a video to show you guys how much we were properly cheering for them - there were lads jumping off seats cheering turnovers."

In a bizarre set of circumstances the players would've had to return to the Aviva Stadium if England had pulled off the upset and there was chaos between the players and staff members when it was in touching distance of happening

McCluskey recalled: "From what I remember we pretty much watched a bit of the game at the Aviva, went back to the hotel, got changed quickly and went to a bar that was set up for us.

"Lads were on it pretty much 10 minutes after the (Scotland) game. Word went around with 20 minutes to go that we might have to go back to the stadium to get the trophy but nobody wanted to move.

"But it is one of those things, you can't leave before you have actually win it. Unfortunately we didn't win in the end".

"It would have been a hilarious video of us picking the trophy up absolutely 9/10 drunk. I said to (Ireland captain) Caelan (Doris) I was going to try and grab the trophy and lift it myself at that stage so it would have been funny viewing for everybody!"

We can only imagine the chaos in Dublin if this had happened!
