More evidence of the wonderful team spirit in the Irish camp.
We can only imagine the disappointment in the O’Mahony household after Peter was ruled out of the World Cup with injury.
The Munster skipper was in the midst of perhaps his finest day in a green shirt against the French when he was cut down with knee ligament damage, and head coach Joe Schmidt moved quickly to call up replacement Rhys Ruddock.
The Leinster man arrived in Cardiff last night and faced the media this afternoon, where he revealed that despite his own distress, O’Mahony took the time to text and then phone Ruddock, himself only just recovered from a broken arm, and congratulate him on his belated selection.
“I think it was the night he got the injury, he texted me to say he was delighted to hear I was coming over,” Ruddock said today at Ireland’s hotelÂ
“It shows what a quality bloke he is on top of being a quality player. That’d be the last thing on most people’s minds, absolute gent.
“I had a conversation with him and wished him a speedy recovery.”
Top class all around.
