Iain Henderson is not planning on leaving Kingspan Stadium (Ravenhill) any time soon.
Last weekend was somewhat of a horror show for Ulster and Leinster in the Champions Cup.
Leinster lost their second cup game in a row while Ulster lost, and coughed up a bonus point, to Saracens despite being at home.
Both sides are seeking solace in the Guinness PRO12, this Friday, but there can be only one winner. In fact, given the current fortunes of the two provinces, it will probably be a draw.
One man hoping to ensure Ulster come back from Dublin with a win is a man who will make only his second appearance of the season – Henderson.
Friday’s defeat to Sarries was the first time the 23-year-old lined out for Ulster since the World Cup. It marked his 50th cap – a memorable honour on a night to forget.
Henderson’s comments about the next 50 should assuage any fears that he might be soon tempted to a Top 14 or Aviva Premiership move.
He said, “I’m trying to chase Craig Gilroy on his 100 and whatever he’s on now [115 caps]. That is a good few seasons away yet but that is my next goal with Ulster – to try and reach that tonne mark.”
Henderson is contracted with Ulster up until June 2018 and given his expected involvement with Ireland, he would have to sign an extension to that deal to ever push Gilroy’s impressive record close.
