Making a difference and proving to be a cult hero to another set of fans.
One of the main reasons James Coughlan went to France was the increased salary. Coughlan is not in rugby for pay-days, though, and his fervent commitment and intelligent play has been acknowledged by his peers.
Pau were the clear winners of France’s Pro D2 last season and the former Munster forward was a huge part of their success.
The Cork native was a revelation for Simon Mannix’ side as they swept all comers aside and returned to the Top 14.
He scored five tries in 26 matches as Pau finished nine points clear at the top of the table.
Coughlan’s magnificent efforts have been noted  by his fellow professionals and by league officials.
The 34-year-old has been nominated for Pro D2 Player of the Year, along with Tutaia Mosalosalo [Stade Montois] and Taylor Paris [Agen]. The winner will be announced on November 23.

Top 14 Player of the Year will be contested by Matt Giteau [Toulon], Nick Abendanon [Clermont] and Sergio Parisse [Stade Francais], who is favourite to take the prize.
Life has been somewhat tougher for Pau in the Top 14 this season.
Despite adding further Munster forwards Sean Dougall and Paddy Butler to their ranks, they have won three of their opening eight games. Coughlan has started six of those matches.
Pau currently lie 12th but will be boosted in the coming weeks by the arrival of New Zealand centre Conrad Smith
