Former Leinster man Kane Douglas clearly didn’t think much of his time in Ireland

The Aussie left under something of a cloud

Kane Douglas clearly has no regrets about his early departure from Leinster, judging by his reflections on his time in Ireland.

The Wallaby second row was Leinster’s big summer signing a year ago but failed to settle in Dublin and made it clear he wished to return home this summer, where he signed a new deal with Queensland after coming to an agreement with the Irish province.

Douglas cited homesickness and family issues for his desire to move back Down Under, yet his presence in the Australian World Cup squad will see him back in the northern hemisphere for the best part of the next two months, and his latest remarks are unlikely to improve his shaky standing amongst Leinster fans.

The Sydney Morning Herald writes:

“Well, you learn how awesome Australia is,” he replied when asked what living in Ireland had taught him.  “I signed a three-year deal, but came home after one, but it was a good experience for me and the missus [Jennarly] to do something different … getting away was good for our relationship.”

Douglas did have some words of praise for new Leinster boss Leo Cullen, however, adding: “From a rugby point of view, I’ve played in a different place and experienced a different type of rugby. I’ve packed down in a few more scrums and with Leo Cullen there it was good for lineout knowledge.”
