Tadhg Beirne will play no further part in Ireland’s 2023 Guinness Six Nations campaign after it was revealed today he will be sidelined for 12 weeks.
The talented lock picked up the injury early in the second half of Ireland’s 32-19 bonus-point win over France at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.
He looked to be in serious discomfort coming off the pitch and was seen in a moon boot and on crutches after the final whistle.
“Tadhg Beirne will undergo surgery today on the ankle injury he sustained in Saturday’s win over France. Unfortunately, Tadhg will be ruled out for up to 12 weeks,” an IRFU statement read.
The injury comes as a huge blow for Munster too, with Beirne set to miss their Champions Cup last 16 knockout clash with the Sharks in South Africa.
Further injury updates on Ireland’s Johnny Sexton and Rob Herring, both injured in the same game, are expected soon.
Ireland are unbeaten so far in this year’s Championship with bonus-point wins over Wales and France. Up next is a trip to Italy in Rome.
