Let’s hope this isn’t too serious.
Ireland’s Under-20s have thrilled the nation with their stunning victories over Wales and New Zealand in their opening two games of the World Under-20 Championships.
And no player has impressed more than inspirational captain James Ryan, who picked up where he left off in the Six Nations, leading by example and conquering all in front of him.
Ireland coach Nigel Carolan made 13 changes to the side that beat the All Blacks for Wednesday evening’s final pool game against Georgia.
Ryan was dropped to the bench to get a well-earned rest but it has now emerged that he was been withdrawn from the squad entirely as he is still suffering with a hip injury picked up in the game against New Zealand.
At this stage his withdrawal is understood to be a precaution but with the semi-finals taking place next Monday, June 20, we can only hope it’s nothing more serious than that.
