WATCH: Victorious Tony Ferguson calls out Eddie Alvarez, gets in Conor McGregor dig

Unbeaten streak

Tony Ferguson extended the longest active win streak in the UFC lightweight division, last night, but did not have it all his own way.

‘El Cucuy’ took on Lando Vannate at UFC Sioux Falls, in South Dakota, and extended his streak to eight wins.

Having pulled out of one fight and faced a late opponent change, Ferguson was happy to get out in the octagon and trade blows again. Vannate had him in trouble in each round but Ferguson eventually wore his man down.

He ended the contest in the second round when he locked in a choke and forced Vannate to tap out.

Post-fight, Ferguson said he would fight ‘whoever signs on the dotted line’ next but made it clear that a lightweight title shot against newly crowned champion Eddie Alvarez was his priority. He even managed a dig at Conor McGregor, referencing Alavarez’ “gimme fight” comments after UFC 200. He said:

“Give me that title shot. Alvarez, I know you don’t want to fight me.

“If you want an easy fight, go ahead and get Conor, but I’m right here at your door-step. I’m ready.”

Speaking to Megan Olivi, back-stage, Ferguson stressed he wants a ‘Top 3’ fighter next. He has certainly earned it.
