To the victor, the spoils. To the defeated, a world of questions and recriminations.
On Saturday morning, you would have got short odds on Conor McGregor and Holly Holm both appearing near the top of UFC 200’s fight card.
By Saturday night, those odds diminished. Greatly.
Holm was choked unconscious by Miesha Tate to lose her bantamweight strap. Less than 20 minutes later and McGregor had tapped out to Nate Diaz in the main event.
McGregor was non-committal about fighting at UFC 200 but he will have to do so at featherweight, defending his crown against either Jose Aldo or Frankie Edgar.
Holm looks unlikely to get an immediate rematch as Dana White and the UFC matchmakers are teeing up Ronda Rousey for Tate.
McGregor arrived eight minutes into the post-event press briefing and shared a touching moment with Holm as he took his seat. Not once but twice did he offer Holm a consoling pat on the back.
McGregor also shared a few words with Holm as the briefing wrapped.
