The UFC featherweight champion may have been in the National Stadium on Saturday night, but it was the fighters competing at Total Extreme Fighting 1 who took centre stage.
Charliei Ward was one of the warriors who played a starring role at the inaugural Total Extreme Fighting event in Dublin 8.
The SBG prospect improved his professional record to 2-1 after emerging as the victor in a massively entertaining war against Nobrega Team’s Joao Carvalho. Both fighters landed some good shots on the feet throughout the fight, but it was clear that Ward had the power advantage over the Brazilian.
Ward had his opponent rocked on several occasions and eventually finished the fight after a forceful right hook dropped Carvalho to the canvas in the third round. He proceeded to take his opponent’s back and land some vicious ground and pound until the referee had seen enough and awarded him the TKO victory.
After the win, Ward went over to his corner to high five his cornermen and teammate Conor McGregor, who had joined the crowd just before his teammate entered the cage.
