Jacare Souza made a real case for himself getting the next middleweight title shot with his dominant win over Vitor Belfort at UFC 198.
Souza scored another finish on Saturday night, but this time he got a knockout win as opposed to a submission, as we’ve come to expect from the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt.
Belfort was brought down to the mat early in the fight where Souza went in search of the submission while working his ground and pound. A nasty cut opened up on Belfort’s eye and the fight was momentarily stopped to allow the doctor to examine the wound.
The fight was allowed to continue and Belfort got the fight back standing, but it wasn’t long before he was back on the canvas again where Souza got full mount and began raining down strikes on his helpless opponent. The referee eventually deemed that Belfort had taken enough punishment and called the fight to a halt in the final minute of the opening stanza.
