They’re taking over, once again.
The streets of the United States have been the scenes of a lot of anger, frustration and rancour in the days and nights since Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential elections.
On Saturday night those protests were replaced by joyous celebrations, at least in one corner of Manhattan, as the Irish fans spilled out of Madison Square Garden and into the surrounding streets.
The famous old arena was packed to the rafters and Eddie Alvarez, from a couple of hours down the road in Philadelphia, could not pretend this was a home fight for him.
After Alvarez relinquished his lightweight belt to Conor McGregor by second round TKO, the Dubliner’s overjoyed fans took to the streets for a rousing rendition of the ‘Fields of Athenry’.
