August 18 was fresh in Dana White’s mind.
It only took 11 minutes of last night’s UFC 205 press conference for Conor McGregor to stare down his latest opponent and declared ‘Make me. Make me!’
Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez may fare better in the Octagon against the Dubliner on November 12, at Madison Square Garden, but he came off as distinctly second best in their first verbal head-to-head.
McGregor is a natural at slinging and slagging. So it proved again, last night and Alvarez was on the back foot.
One goading exchange finally forced McGregor to turn and directly address Alvarez. Asked to take his sunglasses off, McGregor bit back. In swinging around to address the Philadelphia fighter, McGregor knocked over his name plaque.
Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, who was sitting beside McGregor, nipped in to remove his water and can of energy drink from his reach. Thompson had, no doubt, seen McGregor trade bottles and cans with Nate Diaz and his crew at the UFC 202 press conference.
When Thompson replaced the drinks, UFC president Dana White nipped right in.

Plastic bottles, okay. Full can of fizzy drink, not okay.
McGregor, unsurprisingly, had the last laugh when a fight fan pretended to be a journalist only to slay Alvarez with a comment about his questionable stamina.
