Cain Velasquez has made a statement.
13 months after losing his heavyweight title for the second time, Velasquez set out his stall early against Travis Browne and stormed his way right back into the title picture.
Everyone expected a typical strategy from ‘Cardio Cain’ – some pressuring boxing, level changes and tireless grinding against the fence.
But the AKA stand-out showed that he’s added some flashy striking to his armoury since being submitted by Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188.
Can we please just take a second to reflect on @CainMMA‘s Spinning Back Kick?!? That was AWESOME! #UFC200 pic.twitter.com/gWz0nZQZla

Midway through the first round of the UFC 200 main card opener, Velasquez spun and stunned Browne with an unexpected spinning wheel kick.
Velasquez then upped his output considerably and started zapping away at the gas tank of Browne who was flattened out at the very end of the opening round.
Once the ten second clapper went, Velasquez poured it on with ground and pound and gave ‘Big’ John McCarthy no other option but to jump in.
The #Respect these athletes have for each other is the BEST part of this sport! #UFC200 pic.twitter.com/vrB1CpIQ6O

A fantastic win for a former champion eager to remove the ‘former’ element.
