There are only a handful of people who understand both professional wrestling and professional fighting.
Ken Shamrock, Bobby Lashley and Dan Severn have all had varying success in both arenas but one man has excelled in both and that’s Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar won the UFC heavyweight title after just four professional bouts and defended it twice against some of the most dangerous men walking the planet.
After two subsequent losses and an ongoing battle with diverticulitis, Lesnar decided to return to the world of scripted competition and he remains one of the biggest stars on the WWE roster.
And on ESPN’s SportsCenter today, Lesnar was asked about former employer Dana White’s recent comments on wrestling being “fake s**t.”
“Of course, Dana, it’s fake!” Lesnar said. “Everybody knows that but you’re promoting the same thing we’re promoting. Dana White is promoting fights — we’re promoting fights. It just so happens that we get a little more longevity out of our fight and out of our fighters because of the circumstances.
“It is a staged arena. Everybody knows that. Dana, probably in his defense, is promoting fighting but it’s the same thing. He’s trying to sell pay-per-views, he’s trying to sell money fights. It’s the same racket.”
Lesnar carried on to say that he believes WWE owner Vince McMahon is a better promoter than Dana White.
“The business model’s the same, it’s identical. I think Vince McMahon’s better at it than Dana and that might rub Dana the wrong way.”
“Vince is the pioneer of it. He’s been doing this his whole life and he’s damn good at it.”
