“When I hit they fall, when he hits they survive.”
So said Conor McGregor amid a torrent of abuse from Brazilian fans at the UFC 189 press conference from Rio de Janeiro.
The event got underway in predictably hostile fashion with Aldo surprisingly playing the heel as he arrived on stage with a single finger salute to McGregor.
And that clearly irked Dublin’s McGregor as he mouthed some predictions to Aldo when they faced off.
“He hasn’t stopped anyone in five years. How’s he going to stop me?” were the last words uttered by The Notorious before UFC president Dana White stood aside and let two of the world’s best at 145lb get at each other.
During the Q&A event, the question of Jose Aldo’s leg kicks was raised to Conor and the Irish fighter revealed that he felt those strikes wouldn’t hinder his movement at all.
“Aldo’s kicks will be inefficient,” McGregor said. “I’m going to bang a left hand straight down the pipe and break his nose.”
Champion Aldo claimed that he echoed the views of a number of McGregor cynics who feel that the Dubliner received his featherweight title shot based off his trash talk alone.
“Conor McGregor isn’t as good as he thinks he is. He talked his way here.”
