We are still five days out but already the battle lines are being drawn.
All roads lead to Las Vegas this weekend for a peerless weekend of MMA action, culminating with the UFC featherweight unification bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
You know a sporting event has reached a critical mass when the songs start to appear and today we got wind of ditties written in honour of both protagonists.
This battle will be won in the Octagon, not on the airwaves, but if we had to choose a winner it would be Marcelo D2 and Tony Mariano’s ode to the champ, “Campeão Do Povo”.
The funky rap in Portuguese, with moody video, is more to our liking than Nat Anglin’s “The Hostile Gospel”. The Irish American’s rock-based rap is none too shabby, but the Brazilians get the nod – even though we haven’t a breeze what they’re saying in “The People’s Champion”.
See what you think of them both.
Thanks to Peter Kavanagh for sending Nat Anglin’s song our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to editorial@sportsjoe.ie or hit us up on Facebook and Twitter
