Sniff, sniff, I think there’s something in my eye.
Makwan Amirkhani had everyone a bit misty-eyed after his phenomenal first round submission victory over Masio Fullen in Berlin.
After improving his record inside the Octagon to 2-0, Amirkhani gave an emotional Octagon interview in which he dedicated the win to his mother.
As he explained during fight week, his mother had made a lot of sacrifices in order to make sure both him and his sister could have a better life.
“I live in a house with my mom and sister, our house only has two beds and my mom gave the beds to me and my sister. She sleeps in the living room on a mat. It’s not very nice… but, now, I can buy her a bed! With the $50,000 bonus I can hopefully buy her a $10,000 bed that flies!”
Amirkhani’s mother was seen in the crowd shedding tears of joy after her son’s stellar performance, and he was quick to acknowledge her influence on his career.
