VIDEO: Joe Duffy opens up about doubts that nearly ended his UFC career

Destiny awaits

Patrick McCarry

“At first, I thought I was out of my depth.”

Joe Duffy had a 2015 to remember as he made his UFC debut, won his first two fights and was slated to headline UFC Dublin in October.

The dream year was jolted by a concussion sustained in the lead-up to his first main event but the Donegal native has shown no ill effects and is primed to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 195.

That bout will be available on Fight Pass as the final prelim on a night that sees Robbie Lawler defend his welterweight title against Carlos Condit in Las Vegas.

In a UFC promo piece entitled ‘The Journey’, Duffy recounts how his elimination from The Ultimate Fighter 12 almost saw him give up on the sport he loves.

Duffy was sent packing before the entry round and it took another four years before he got another chance in the promotion.

Since then he has proved himself as a man to watch, and fear. Earlier this month, ‘Irish Joe’ was named as one of the UFC’s top 10 newcomers of 2015.

“This is all I’ve lived and breathed for,” he declares.
