We think Conor McGregor could do with some confidence classes.
Not really, of course. There are fewer athletes more confident in their abilities than “The Notorious” and that came across loud and clear in this interview with MMAFighting‘s Ariel Helwani.
McGregor was speaking at the launch of Reebok’s new runner, the ZPump, and discussed his relationship with the sports apparel brand.
“I’m grateful to be here with Reebok and, as you said, it’s a select few athletes [who are sponsored by Reebok]” he said. “I take that seriously.”
McGregor also spoke about his famous “stick man” logo and the chances of getting it on Reebok gear.
“It is in talks,” he said. “This is big business. It’s something you don’t want to dive into with the big fight and all.
“We will see but, make no mistake, the logo will be mine.”
Helwani also asked “The Notorious” what he thought about the fact that his title fight against Jose Aldo will be the main event at UFC 189, with the welterweight championship bout between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald resigned to co-main event status.
“Renan Barao fought Urijah Faber and Jose Aldo fought Ricardo Lamas,” McGregor said, in reference to the rarity of a lower weight-class featuring later on a card than a heavier division.
“When that fight went on, I said ‘you’re the pound for pound co-main event champion of the world.
“Now he fights the money man, now he fights me. Now we’re ahead of the 170lb division. At one point in time the 170lb division was the division.
“Now it’s the 145lb division and it’s not actually the 145lb division. It’s the McGregor division. Wherever I go, I’ll be ahead of whoever’s on the card.”
