UFC legend Matt Serra offers alternative Conor McGregor v Nate Diaz scorecard

Not convinced

First off, Matt Serra wants you to know he is a huge fan of how Conor McGregor took the fight to Nate Diaz at UFC 202.

However, the former UFC Welterweight champion feels the fight should have been scored in Nate Diaz’ favour.

During UFC Unfiltered, Serra broke down each round and gave three to Diaz. Rounds 1 and 4, he said, went to McGregor. Serra commented:

“I thought Diaz won, three rounds to two, to be honest with you. I think it came down to that fifth round and Diaz won it.

“First round Conor and in the second round, first minute, boom, he knocks down Nate. Some are thinking it’s automatically a 10-8 round [to McGregor] but I don’y know. The next four minutes, at the end of that round… shit, look at him going back to his stool. He was lucky.”

Serra could well have been confusing rounds 2 and 3 but McGregor did take punishment at the end of both five-minute stanzas. Serra continued:

“Third round could have been a 10-8 for Nate. If you are saying the fifth round could have been a 10-9 for either one, it depends on who you gave it to, I gave it to Nate and I thought the take-down sealed the deal at the very end. That was beautifully executed.

“He was stalking McGregor the whole time; backing him up.”

Scored Serra’s way, Diaz would have won three rounds to two: 48-46, ‘The Terror’ did add he was ‘a f**king fan’ of McGregor and has nothing with respect for both him and his coach, John Kavanagh.

For the record, McGregor won 48-47 [three rounds to two] on two of the judge’s scorecards
