UFC confirm that Darren Till fight will proceed as planned

Jack O'Toole

The UFC have confirmed that the UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Till  main event in Liverpool this afternoon will proceed as planned after Darren Till kept his weight below the 188 pound limit.

Till weighed in at 174.5 pounds, 3.5 pounds over the welterweight non-title fight limit of 171 pounds, at yesterday’s weigh-in in Liverpool and if he exceeded the 188 pound limit his opponent Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson would have been within his right to decline the fight, or alternatively, re-enter negotiations with the UFC and Till to reach a new agreement.

Till weighed in at 187.3 pounds around 1pm on Sunday which means the fight should proceed as expected.

Till was fined 30 percent of his total purse for missing the 171 pound limit at Saturday’s weigh-in with the UFC claiming that the missed weight cut was partly due to a family emergency, which was believed to be due to a visit to his pregnant girlfriend in hospital.

Till is confident that a win over Thompson on Sunday will solidify his status within the promotion following his upset win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone last year.

“I believe a win over Stephen will make a lot of guys stop doubting me and thinking that I’m this one-hit wonder who beat Donald Cerrone,” Till told Express Sport.

“I don’t really care about the title or anything else. I just want all these guys to know not to f**k with me and that they can’t beat me. And then I’m going to beat them all.”
