From bad to worse for the light-heavyweight champ

UFC star Jon Jones is facing felony hit-and-run charge after turning himself in to the police department in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

On Sunday, Jones allegedly left the scene after colliding with another vehicle and injuring a pregnant woman in her 20s, who was taken to hospital with a broken arm and possible further injuries.

Police issued a statement seeking Jones for questioning and the fighter turned himself in to the authorities last night, according to ESPN, where he was later released on bail.

The UFC said they were ‘still in the process of the gathering the facts’ surrounding the incident, but police spokesman Tanner Tixier indicated Jones will be charged with leaving the scene of a crime, a felony charge that could carry a custodial sentence.

From ESPN:

According to the police report, witnesses saw a man fitting Jones’ description leave the silver SUV that struck the woman’s vehicle before stopping and returning to the car to grab a “large handful of cash.” The man then “shoved the cash into his pants” and fled the scene.

Tixier identified the vehicle left behind as a rental. A marijuana pipe with marijuana inside it was found in the car. No other drugs were found.

Jones, who entered rehab after testing positive for cocaine in the lead-up to his last fight against Daniel Cormier in January, was due to defend his light-heavyweight title against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23, and there have as of yet been no changes made to that card.
