Conor McGregor has a chance to become the first fighter to simultaneously hold two UFC belts, if he beats Jose Aldo.
Only two fighters in UFC history have claimed multiple belts in separate divisions. Randy Couture achieved this feat by winning both light heavyweight and heavyweight titles, while BJ Penn claimed both the welterweight and the lightweight strap.
However, no fighter in the history of the promotion has held more than one UFC title at the same time. Should McGregor usurp Jose Aldo’s throne, Rafael dos Anjos is more than willing to give him the opportunity to make history.
“If he comes to the lightweight division, I’d be more than happy to fight him. But the lightweight division is a shark tank, he better stay in the featherweight division.”
“I’m not going to change, I’m the same guy. I do my job, I go out there and fight. I don’t think I’m going to trash talk with him, I’m not going to waste my time.”
The freshly-crowned 155 lb champion does not think that the Notorious will have a chance at becoming a double-champion though, he predicted that Jose Aldo will prove at UFC 189 that he is the undisputed featherweight king.
“It’s just a matter of time for Jose Aldo to beat this guy. [McGregor] is a good fighter, I’m not saying he’s a bad fighter, but he has a lot of things to do in the division still.”
“If you talk about Conor McGregor one year ago, nobody knows who he is. It’s an MMA fight; anything can happen. But my opinion, Aldo will beat him.”
