This isn’t the worst news to strike the UFC this week, not by a long shot.
However, the horrific shit pie served up by Jon Jones being booted out of UFC 200’s light heavyweight title fight main event has been dealt a pissy aftertaste thanks to Demetrious Johnson being forced out of UFC 201 co-main event.
Globo first reported the news that the flyweight champion (24-2-1, 12-1-1 UFC) was forced to pull out of his fight with Wilson Reis (20-6, 4-2 UFC) after suffering an injury in training.
This marks the first time Demetrious Johnson has withdrawn from a fight since The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale in April 2013. Mighty Mouse pulled out his bout with John Moraga, but it was rescheduled for a couple of months later as UFC on Fox 8’s headliner.
Johnson has managed to stay healthy since then racking up eight title defenses on the bounce during his reign as 125 lb king.
The bout will be rescheduled for a later date, but since the card order has yet to be set, it is unknown what fight will take its slot as the support act for the welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
