Tyron Woodley cruelly pokes fun at Kelvin Gastelum’s weight problem in response to UFC 209 prediction

Walked right into that one

Seemingly all it takes to get a rise out of Tyron Woodley is an innocuous tweet.

That’s what rising middleweight Kelvin Gastelum discovered when he foolishly decided to offer his prediction for UFC 209’s main event between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson.

The welterweight title fight will mark an immediate rematch of their majority draw at UFC 205. Although Woodley came closest to finishing the fight with his incredible 10-8 fourth round (inexplicably only one judge saw it this way), and he was the only one winning on one of the judges’ scorecards at the end, he still finds himself being underestimated by a lot of people.

Gastelum is one of the many who believesthat Bruce Buffer will be screaming, ‘And new…’ come the final buzzer on March 4. His opinion wasn’t taken too kindly by the champion who, despite not being tagged in the tweet, managed to stumble across it.

Woodley and Gastelum have previous with the Chosen One pipping him to a split decision when the pair threw down at UFC 183 two years ago. The bout was a catchweight contest set at 180 lb, because of Gastelum’s inability to make weight for the second time in his UFC career.

He was forced to forfeit 30% of his purse to his opponent and ordered to move up to middleweight, but Woodley very soundly returned the money.

After starching Nate Marqaurdt at 185 lbs, Gastelum returned to welterweight. He lost a split decision to Neil Magny before beating Johnny Hendricks.

However, when he failed to show up to the UFC 205 weigh-ins due to cutting issues and his main card bout with Donald Cerrone got scrapped, he was sent back to middleweight again.

So when Woodley saw the tweet, he seized the opportunity to score a dig on his former foe.

Gastelum, who is scheduled to fight legendary knockout artist Vitor Belfort in March, then asked if Woodley wanted to settle the dispute inside the cage.

Woodley was quick to point out that he already has a fight and that Gastelum should focus on his new division.

That’s when the trash talk started to get cringey.

Ok, that’s enough. You can stop now.

Please stop!

Oh thank Christ!

Nooooo!

Mercifully, that’s where the exchange ended.
