As the UFC makes its first foray into the Philippines, fight fans are salivating at the prospect of the rumoured main event of Urijah Faber v Frankie Edgar.
UFC Fight Night 65 is slated for May 16 in Manila and it’s been suggested that perpetual bantamweight contender Urijah Faber will make the move back to featherweight to face the division’s number 1 ranked fighter.
Frankie Edgar (18-4-1) made the drop to 145lbs after failing to regain his lightweight belt in a rematch with Benson Henderson. Since then he has gone 3-1 with his only loss coming in a featherweight title clash with dominant champion Jose Aldo.
Including an interim decider, Faber has fought for the UFC bantamweight championship three times and has come up short on each occasion but has been quoted as being open to a move up to featherweight.
MMA-in-Asia report that the “superfight” is likely to be confirmed by UFC officials in the coming days and, when that happens, it looks like we might very well be seeking out tickets to the MOA Arena.
