Remember Rob Whiteford?
The Scottish featherweight had a four-fight stint in the UFC which Irish fans might remember.
Unfortunately, he’ll be forever known as the guy who sent Paul Redmond crashing out of the UFC. Redser was brutally knocked out by the Scot in his sophomore bout in the promotion at UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow.
The first round knockout marked Redmond’s second-straight loss in the promotion after losing his extremely short notice debut to rising starlet Mirsad Bektic. The Team Ryano fighter was cut from the promotion shortly after the fight.
Whiteford also fought on the last Dublin card against another featherweight who has been making the headlines for all the right reasons lately.
Darren Elkins, who scored one of the all-time great comebacks against Bektic at UFC 209, outworked Whiteford over three rounds to take a unanimous decision victory on the preliminary card headlined by Paddy Holohan vs Louis Smolka. Whiteford was cut after dropping a split decision to Lucas Martins in his next trip to the Octagon.
He has since signed for the ACB, and had his second fight for the promotion on Saturday.
Whiteford took just 21 seconds to finish his opponent, eight-fight UFC veteran Nam Phan. He essentially strangled his opponent unconscious from a standing position before letting him slump head-first to the mat as soon as the lights went out.
