Listen, we all love a good trilogy but three fights in a year in a year seems a bit much for the Hendricks and Lawler rivalry.
Dana White revealed at yeserday’s UFC 182 media scrum that the rubber match between current champion Robbie Lawler and the challenger Johny Hendricks will take place in 2015.
The fight will be the decider after two knife-edge decisions in their 2014 fights with Hendricks coming out on top at March’s UFC 171 before Lawler was given the nod after last month’s UFC 181.
“We just feel like the trilogy makes sense,” White said. “Do the third fight between these two.”
While the fight is massively exciting after the action-packed nature of both bouts, particularly the first which was considered fight of the year by most MMA fans, you can’t help but feel a little sorry for Rory MacDonald.
The Canadian has been in the title picture for years now and, after the retirement of TriStar teammate Georges St-Pierre, we all expected him to be the next big thing at welterweight.
But “The Canadian Psycho” will have to wait because”Robbie and Rory just fought,” as Dana White said of UFC 167’s meeting between MacDonald and Lawler which the American took by split decision.
Sad times for Rory MacDonald but great news for most fight fans who can’t seem to get enough of Lawler v Hendricks.
